Bees In Dormer---August 13, 2009

Last year I was called out for a swarm on this exact dormer. The lady inside didn't want the dormer opened. I believed she was the owner of the building. Today, the owner hired me to remove them. He said the lady that ran the business inside pretends she is the owner of the building. :lol:

I know from people in the area that this hive swarmed at least twice and in fact, I found hatched out queen cells and one they were working, which I saved, of course.

Iddee, if you're referring to the height, it wasn't that bad, maybe twenty feet. Bees were quite nice, but you know how bees are when you get a little over confident, they put you in your place. Took a sting in the ear right before dark! Ouch!

I have seen flies like that one before when I lived in Texas. They were not too common, but I seen them flying around the horse barn. I think that they were trying to catch the 'stable flies'. It might be something that eats bees too, as there were some hives behind the horse barn.

Might not of been high but I would venture to guess you made many trips up and down that ladder, no where to sit tools or vac or box of frames and comb or ....................

Actually, this type of building has a flat roof, so I put the bee vac and tools on the roof. Also put tools on the roof of the dormer. Flat roofs are notorious for holding water and this one was no exception. I used the water on the roof in fact to wipe the honey from my tools.
