Entrance Reducer, mouse guard, or both?

It's all in the title.  It's getting cold here nights (50 or so).  I've got my reducer on with the medium opening.  Tomorrow I'll turn it to the smallest.  Should I use a mouse guard in addition to the reducer?  Or is that just overkill?  Thanks!
