is 110 lbs. That's two deeps, SSB, inner cover, telescoping outer cover, and the bees.  I'm in Northern Illinois.  I have all supers off the hive now.  We still have a few (hopefully good) weeks left for some goldenrod collection.  Anyway, how much would you guys feed for a typical midwestern winter?

For lack of anything else to do today;
I did some very scientific research, using the old bathroom scale !

Wt. of telescoping outer cover --------------------- 5 #
Wt. of inner cover --------------------------------- 3 #
Wt. of Illinois hive body with all plastic frames bare - 12 #    -- Wood frames would be a tad heavier

3 Illinois Hive bodies approximate 2 deeps.

Thing I can apply for some Grant money with this type of in dept studies ??   :cheer:

Hope your Goldenrod is better then ours in Southern Mo.

Wow, thanks.  By your calculations, I figure I have 44 lbs of hardware.  If the hive's total weight is 110 lbs, I then have 66 lbs of stores.  I need another 34 lbs to bring them up to winter weight.  I'll feed for about 3 weeks, and hopefully they can collect more goldenrod.  After three weeks, I'll weigh the hive again, and make up any weight with some honey.

Thanks.
