Obama in the British Media

Here is an interesting editorial from Someone outside our country as to what is going on!

If al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the rest of the Looney Tunes brigade want to kick America to death, they had better move in quickly and grab a piece of the action before Barack Obama finishes the job himself. Never in the history of the United States has a president worked so actively against the interests of his own people - not even Jimmy Carter.

Obama's problem is that he does not know who the enemy is. To him, the enemy does not squat in caves in Waziristan, clutching automatic weapons and reciting the more militant verses from the Koran: instead, it sits around at tea parties in Kentucky quoting from the US Constitution. Obama is not at war with terrorists, but with his Republican fellow citizens. He has never abandoned the campaign trail.

That is why he opened Pandora's Box by publishing the Justice Department's legal opinions on waterboarding and other hardline interrogation techniques. He cynically subordinated the national interest to his partisan desire to embarrass the Republicans. Then he had to rush to Langley, Virginia to try to reassure a demoralised CIA that had just discovered the President of the United States was an even more formidable foe than al-Qaeda..

"Don't be discouraged by what's happened the last few weeks," he told intelligence officers. Is he kidding? Thanks to him, al-Qaeda knows the private interrogation techniques available to the US intelligence agencies and can train its operatives to withstand them - or would do so, if they had not already been outlawed.

So, next time a senior al-Qaeda hood is captured, all the CIA can do is ask him nicely if he would care to reveal when a major population centre is due to be hit by a terror spectacular, or which American city is about to be irradiated by a dirty bomb.. Your view of this situation will be dictated by one simple criterion: whether or not you watched the people jumping from the twin towers...

President Pantywaist's recent world tour, cozying up to all the bad guys, excited the ambitions of America's enemies. Here, they realised, is a sucker they can really take to the cleaners.

His only enemies are fellow Americans.

Which prompts the question: why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

I've only just seen this post. What "British Media" source is this? Normally one should quote one's source. The text appears to have been written by an American.

For some reason I thought that one could access google from France. A quick cut/paste of a snippet of the quote and, voila! (like how I worked a french word in there?). 8-)

Article written by Gerald Warner. From his wiki page (I normally wouldn't quote wiki as a source, but in this case I think it's probably authoritarian enough):

QuoteGerald Warner of Craigenmaddie (born 1945) is Scottish newspaper columnist, author, broadcaster, commentator, and former policy adviser to a British cabinet minister.[1] His daily blog on The Daily Telegraph newspaper website generates strong reactions, from both admirers and fierce critics.[2]

sources are good.

i read quite a bit of foreign press.  the bloom is coming off the rose in europe.  "the one" is not turning out to be such a savior after all :-)

i'm guessing that it's because no one has a clue what he stands for or where he stands on issues.  that's got to be as frustrating for our allies as it is for us.

every time he says something his gang has to come out the next day and tell us what he really meant.  makes you wonder who's running things?

Thank you John Lee Pettimore. However, I hardly think a blog on wiki by a ranting right wing extremist counts as "The British Media". Even a scurrilous rag like the Telegraph only publishes him in the form of an Internet Blog.
I think Kathyp should be more careful in her choice of overseas media. None of the papers I have read, be they French or British, would support her opinion of your President. Perhaps having an articulate, educated man as President is difficult after so many dark years.

now that's funny!  do let me know when we get one of those  ;)

right now, we have the messiah. he's on TV right now telling us how he's going to fix decades of neglect by every other administration.  i am so excited!!  it's like the second coming!

You are free to think anything you want. There are people who think the world is flat.

Since  you apparently think he is so great, do  us a favor and take him.  Think of it as an early Christmas present.  We'll even throw in enough Congressmen to make a complete set of morons.  Just one thing, there are no returns...

France couldn't handle it. They're already too far gone.

Thank you. I hadn't considered that Bil was being sarcastic in an attempt to be funny. I was stereotyping.

Sorry, Bil. Well played.

Hello, I won't talk about your president, because I know nothing about him.  But I have heard of the british tabloids!  When I was in england for a short time, my sister in law informed me that many people go to the news agency and read the papers without buying them.  So as to try out this unique cultural experience, I went for a walk and found a news agency.  The first tabloid I glanced at had big headlines along the lines of "I ate my brother".  I decided the experience should end there, and I went to hear some british folk music instead.

Remember that Bil is a lot closer to britain than any of us!

Be thankful you didn't decide to sample the local cuisine, LOL.

I have French ancestors on my father's side. They came to the US in 1794. You know, back before all the surrendering started...

i like the Sun   :-D

i am lucky when it comes to stuff i hear from GB.  my sister has lived there for 10 years.  when i have questions about what they say, i can ask her or the family. for other press, it takes some work, but one can evaluate press with a little research.

this article may express a minority european view, but not as minority as it used to be.  lets face it, if the eurpeans are beginning to realize that socialism is unsustainable, they must think we are pretty nuts not to have learned from observation.

obama has said the right things, and his color seems to make europeans think that america has come out of the dark ages.  he's a feel good president for them, as carter and clinton were.  never mind the disaster that comes from actual policy.

remember, also, that europeans are far more used to heavy centralized government.  the idea of personal responsibility, especially when that means suffering, if foreign to them.  they are used to the government fixing things.
to them, obama sounds very much like their own leaders.  even their more conservative leaders.  social welfare programs of one kind or another, are the number one issue in most of their elections.
