I would like to introduce you all to a criminal mastermind.

The above pictured individual is one Alan Bukley. You may have heard of him. He will speaking at the Southeast Organic Beekeepers Conference.

Yup that is correct once again I cannot do something without having it surrounded by controversy.

I don't think I would have it any other way. :evil:

Today as I was getting my hives inspected (yes I passed).

I was told by bee inspector that I should reconsidered my hives after dark program. That there is no good reason to be going into your hives at night. That you cannot see diseases in hives at night and that this is not beneficial to beekeeping. That his communication with the other inspectors and from the officials at the Ag department. This is a bad idea and bad for beekeeping.

So basically they don't want Alan to do the hives after dark. That this is an all around bad idea.

And it promotes the theft of beehives.

Well everyone last year it was Dee and Michal this year it is Alan and his evil cohorts JP and pdmattox.

Now maybe if the reward was big enough. ;)

kathyp, because it helps people get over their fear of dealing with bees. <-- That is what I was told.

that's stupid.

i can understand if they have a safety concern......but going into hives during the day will help people get over their fear of bees.

They will claim it is a safety issue later. I am sure. However part of the reason for this is safety. If you have never dealt with bees in the dark here is a controlled setting to help you learn with people who have experience.

The primary goal was always to inform as to how to safely work hives at night for whatever the reason.

If you are a bee keeper, at some point you will perform bee duties of some sort at night, whether it be putting a hive back together that has fallen in transit, putting last minute package orders together, pulling queens, transferring a swarm, shaking bees from a cut out, etc...

I guess if you do any of the above you are considered an outlaw in the state of Florida.

any bee keeper knows if you want to steal a hive the night is the best time!
all girls are home and you can easily block the entrance and carry the hive off!

sounds like typical gov B.S. to me.put somebody in charge of something they have no idea about.if this guy knew anything about bees he would know (like J.P. and others said)sometimes you have to work them at night.that kind of stuff just burns me up.i see it all the time in my profession(aviation).i guess everybody had to have a job though.go figure. thanks bill

I hate working bees at night its creapy even with my vail on your mind starts to play tricks are the bees in side your vail? or outside BWHHHAAA! so I realy don't like night working a hive unless its must.

If it's not breaking any laws,do it anyway. If there is a need to work hives at night,why not learn a good technique?

basicly it is Allan doing his bee whisperer stuff; that boy can charm bees. and he is one that can show you how with the exception of sc bees; that boy is hopeless. The bees just love to pop him

Yes they are steeling hives there has been thousands stolen in the past year, think of the value if you steel right before almonds take them one way and leave them there.

I could not believe when I heard it come out of his mouth. Maybe i will just change the name to the criminal mastermind beekeeping conference. I mean I understand hives get stolen. This cold front helped that more than anything. However from the discussion it was liek I should be running background checks with DHS on everyone who signs up. The problem is I know I would not pass one of their background checks because I am an outspoken critic of their crappy way. So I would have to be kicked from my own conference.

Not only that the conference costs enough without having to pay them for a background check. Also I don't I would get the results before the year 2525.

My advice, don't steal......beehives or anything else. The government hates competition.
