Sparky

My Daughter took a interest this past season and helped with most of the task's of beekeeping. She decided to write to the committee, as part of the requirements, to be chose for the coming year Youth Beekeeping Partnership scholar, through our local club. Here is a copy of the letter that she sent them, that they published in the newsletter.

2010 Youth Beekeeping Partnership
Scholar Katelyn Hastings

Scout Bee Newsletter
HVAS is pleased to announce the 2010 Youth beekeeping
partnership scholar. Katelyn Hasting is attending Smithsburg
high school taking honor classes preparing for college. Katelyn
says "I am very interested in bees and beekeeping because the
whole process is just a great learning experience. You get many
benefits from bees like honey, wax, royal jelly, and pollination we
need for our flowers. The honeybee population has severely
declined so I want to be one who helps care for bees and gets
more people into it and spread the word about the importance of
honeybees and how much they really benefit us and the
environment. I also want to warn people what it would be like
without honeybees. Without honeybees we wouldn't have certain
foods, drinks, and acne medications. It's a fact that without
honeybees, people and the environment would suffer from many
problems and we wouldn't have so many of the things we have
now. That is why I want to help change that and to help the
honeybee population grow."
Katelyn will receive Woodenware consisting of one standard hive
body with frames and foundation, a bottom board, inner cover,
and top cover. A package or nucleus of bees with queen. A one
year membership to the Hagerstown Valley Apian Society.
Beginning Beekeeping Classes, including all educational supplies.
Mentoring by an HVAS member throughout the year.

Be proud now, PaPa. You will feel the pain when her hive makes more honey than any two of yours...    :-D   :-D

There are strange things done in the midnight sun by the men who moil for gold.  The Arctic trails have their secret tales that would make your blood run cold.  The Northern Lights have seen queer sights, but the queerest they ever did see, what the night on the marge of Lake Lebarge, I cremated Sam McGee.  Robert Service

That is great Sparky.  I have a 7 old and she has shown an interest in coming out with me this spring as I start my Beekeeping adventure.  I have 2 hives planned here in Carroll Valley PA.  Please check your personal messages for a request from me.  thanks CVBees.
