Feeding pollen

I am in north Texas and started feeding pollen last week to my bees. The temps have been in the mid 50's until this week and now they are in the mid 60's to 70. I have seen bees out since a couple of weeks ago is why I started feeding the pollen and sugar syrup. I mixed it with 2:1 syrup but the next time I am switching to 1:1. I only did the first feeding at 2:1 because I thought it may be too cold for the 1:1. Was I wrong in doing this?

No, not wrong.  But the different concentrations have different intentions.  If you are feeding them for food because they are low or need more stores, that is when you feed 2:1.  When you want them to build up, draw comb, start raising more brood, then feed 1:1.

While you may have been technically wrong, since you want them to build up right now, it won't have any negative effects.  Either way now they have a little extra stored away which they can use for brood raising.

No feeding nothing for the bees here yet!!

I talked with my friend in Ga who is care taking of my girls right now.  He checked them yesterday while in mid 60s.  Most of the patties and light syrup we gave them around the first of the year is gone now.  Woohoo.  And the wonderrful season begins again.

Not trying to advertise for anyone................but what pollen patties are you using?

I have been buying bee pro and making my own patties.  Recently I purchased Patties from Dadant just out of sheer convienance.  I actually ordered their powderr, but they sent patties and I thought Oh well.  that saves me from making the patties by hand now.  Im am not sure how the bees are going to use dadant patties, but I know they goggle my patties I made from Bee Pro up quick.
