Red maple beginning to Bloom

Haven't noticed mine in the last few days. Will have a look see tomorrow.
My winged Elm is in full bloom, no nector but plenty pollen. Standing under it sounds like a swarm.
This is the last year I'll have one of them. It is too close to the power line and garden. It makes good fire wood. The wood would be good for black smithing, but I don't do that. Too bad. :)doak

Red maples are starting to bloom in central NC.  Upon inspecting my hives this past weekend, I noticed that a lot of pollen has been stored along with some nectar.  Things should really open up over the next couple of weeks.

I also have Elm blooming --- I have a hard time id'ing the different ones. Not sure when it started blooming. The Red Maple just stands out along the hillsides.

This weekend I was seeing quite a lot of very pale yellow pollen, and a little bit of bright orange.  I don't know what kind, but some of the bees abdomens looked like powdered doughnuts.  It's back to cool and rainy now though, I don't guess they are going out much today.  It was fun while it lasted though.

No blooms here in the mtns of NC.  Still some snow on the ground and prediction of flurries in the am.

My bees have been bringing in lots of yellow/orange pollen.

3 or 4 of the states right through this area is pretty much the same, coastal, Piedmont then the mountains. My location is in the Southern  part of the Piedmont. Macon being the fall line, coastal region starts near below Macon. All this may not help any one unless they look at their Geographic
location and do a little study on weather patterns, first&last frost dates etc. 10/4?doak

Red & Silver maple not blooming yet but the buds are swelling.  Elm is in the same stage.

Saw some orange pollen today even thou the wind was blowing hard and  it was a little cool but one hive seemed to be pollen crazy every other bee was coming in loaded. But no maples or populars blooming yet be glad when they do should have a heck of a flow this year queens are brooding good and plenty of stores.

We often get a Masters freeze (1st week in April). Usually nips a lot of bloom in the bud. Hope it holds off this year. Last year was poor due to rain. The bees need a good year!

This Sunday will be the first day it's warm enough for the bees to gather much.  I'm looking forward to watching them and seeing what's blooming.  I didn't even know bees worked winged elm- I have a lot along a gulley away from the house, so I'll be checking it out this week.  Maples aren't blooming yet.
