Newbie here, have hives ready, bees on order and trying to get all of my ducks in a row.  I just remembered the county I live in sprays for Mosquitoes in the summer. I found out they use Evoluer 4 - 4 ULV and that it will harm the Bees.  What do I do? I can probally get a schedule of when there spraying would a wet sheet or something help?  Am I doomed before I start?

Our County sprays every year during summer. I'm not sure what chemicals they use, but they do mostly aerial sprays when the mosquitoes are most active...night time. I've never had it mess with my bees (at least where I could tell).

Orange grove owners are spraying for citrus greening though. What ever that stuff is (been trying to find out from a local grove owner) it can wipe out your whole bee yard.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Get on the phone with your county mosquito folks. Most will do a no spray zone. They are very good here in my area, they even call days before to let you know when they will be spraying in the area. I watched them one evening and they did stop spraying the streets around my block only to continue the spraying the next block over.

Most often this is done from a truck in the evening after the
bees are in the hive.
This never effects my bees.
The arial spraying from a plane can get them though.
most often i find my greatest source of stress to be OPS  ( other peoples stupidity )

It is better to keep ones mouth shut and be thought of as a fool than to open ones mouth and in so doing remove all doubt.

When I lived in MS. they truck sprayed all summer at night. I never noticed any effect on the 30+ hives I had less than 100 ft. from the street.

"THEY" should freeze all that pesticide into little ice cubes and then drop all those little Ice cubes from a plane so that it goes where the water goes and not in the air and down wind...after all, Mosquitoes need water to lay eggs.

I know this is older post but I thought I should still reply to it.  I live in Iowa, and here the state has a beehive registry.  You tell them your address and they prevent any pesticide spraying within a certain radius of your hives during bee activity hours.  Even private operators that have to apply for certain pesticide use licensing have to abide by this.  Might want to check if MO has a similar program.

They spray by plane here early in the morning and they post it in the town newspaper in advance but you can also call and get put on the list to not spray your area but I really don't know how effective that is since they are spraying by plane and the stuff will blow this way anyway.
