Metal Paint Can For Top Feeder

Other than rust are there any drawbacks to using a 1 gal. metal paint can for a hive top feeder?

I've got two brand new (one uncoated and one coated with a grey surface on the inside of the can).

The uncoated one is showing signs of rust already after just leak testing. So my inclination is to go with the coated one.

Any thoughts, cautions, "Oh my Gawd don't do that's"?

I had rather use mason jars, on top, inside or out. Put a hole in the top cover or rig it to sit on something and use a deep box then the top. my 2 cents. :)doak

I haven't tried it, but I had been considering the paint can in a super.  I would rather have a gallon pickle jar, but cant find one anywhere???

costco.  pickles, artichoke hearts, etc.

 There is a member here that does use them, if memory is correct it's BrianBray (sp).
I tried a couple last year and they leaked all over my top covers, badly. I did not have a box covering them. I think it was due to the metal transferring too much heat to the syrup, possibly pressurizing them.

Use them until they are too rusty and toss them.  I get several seasons from them.  I moved on to 2 gallon plastic paint buckets from HD.

It is a popular method.  I've never used it.
