So ok i probly already know the answer, but I did 5 splits, out of the five I see queens in or brood/eggs in three of them. but two are roaring loudly when i go in and they start to noseate, like most all of them, come to the top cover the frames and away they go. there were queen cells in them splits, but is it possible they lost there queen on the mating flight. Yes I know what to do and im going to do it today or tommorow just to test. but wondered if I needed too or not. I prefer to make a couple more splits from the bees over there. And summer is flying by. LOL

you can combine them if they are queenless, or add a frame of eggs.  yes, you know what to do   do it.

I was just hoping for the ,, naw there fine, don't worry about it. I was looking for an easy way out.:) Combining is probably the easiest way out. ..

Two Bees

I had a nuc that didn't requeen itself.  So yesterday, I combined it with another nuc using newspaper.  There was some confusion initially but now, things seem to be settling down.

Good luck! On my split this year, I didn't get a queen despite the presence of Queen cells. I added a couple of frames of brood and and checked again last week....Voila! I spotted the new Queen this time! The only thing is there was absolutely no brood or eggs left. I will leave the hive alone and check in about another 10 days....hopefully the new girl found a man....had a few drinks..and ho'd herself out...Looking forward to see some evidence next check.  Take care.

these were full of queen cells and they were ripped open on the side, just like a virgin queen had ripped them apart to be the only one. Go figure. I'll combine or add a new cell. I'm going to my outyard today adn see if they swarmed or not. There were so many queen cells and I like to leave at least one or two, just incase they needed one. If not I'm makin a couple more splits. late as it is.

LOL well I went and checked again on them hives, i see queen in one of the ones that I thought didn't requeen., the other has brood small amounts but there, its centered in the cell so I guess all is right in the world. I'm heading over to get a couple more splits. Those outyard hives are huge.

That virgin was out cattin around for 4 days. I guess i didn't expect that.

Found more QC's made one more split, and had more left over, gave skflyfish a call, heard them pipping already, need to bank them cells. Hoping no swarms.

Hey Al,

Enjoyed working with you and your bees today. They sure are gentle!

I hope my/our two frame queen rearers work. It will be nice to have a queen or two, if needed, eh. They way your hives throw queen cells, we could be doing this for a month. I think I will be making up another one or two. ;-)

Thanks again. Jay

Yes Sir, them dang bees, just keep making them cells, I guess they need to move, IDK, but they sure do work hard. They already are pulling honey, as you saw I got a super darn near full now. But ya make another couple nukes, we'll see if we can't fill them as well. Like you say a spare queen or two never hurt anyone. :)

You should make up a couple splits for them queens, I haven't checked but I"ll try and get over there later this week. Give ya a couple more hives to compare with.

Gentle yes, they can also be rather obstinate at times, bees are like a loaded gun, as long as its pointing away from you its pretty calm. but if it swings in your direction, run!!
