Just extracted my last frames of the year!  Bumper crop in northwest Iowa.  98 lb average on 22 hives.  I am very pleased.  The honey this year is nice and light with a bit of a spicy aftertaste,  very nice!

Everybody I talked to this year said the honey was very light.  Mine this year compared to last year is like night and day.

I just finished extracting as well..Just wondering what do you do to convert a 2 brood chamber to a one brood chamber without wasting brood and store? I usually winter my hives on a one brood chamber.

What's wrong with a 2 brood chamber.  That's what I have always used.  Gives you a good start in the spring.

In my part of the world I must winter in 2 deeps, and even that was not enough last winter!

Nothing wrong with a 2 brood chamber. I wintered last year with a single brood. I just wanted to do the same again but I ran a 2 brood chamber in the summer and was thinking of reducing it to one again for winter. I was thinking less bees, more storage, better survival rate.

Correct way to think? I'm not sure.

More bees making it through winter makes for a much stronger hive in the spring.
