Hello from Corvallis oregon

I have been reading on this forum for about a month now and thought it would be a good time to introduce myself. My name is Dexter, and I have decided to take on the hobby of beekeeping. So far I have read about 6 books front to back and feel I have a fairly good grasp on what I will need and what steps I may need to take to maintain a healthy colony. I actually went to a local beginner class and found myself way over prepared. I hope that is a good thing. I have been purchasing everything peicemail from my local shop and plan on starting out with 2 hives. I am very excited to start and today I painted my first hive. I looked forward to asking questions as they come along in my first season. I am now a member of my local beek so that will help me out as well I'm sure. I really do appreciate everything that this community has to offer and I am glad to have found it.

welcome fellow beaver  :-D  can you put your location in your profile?  that way we don't have to try to remember or be asking you all the time. 

the books and the classes are great.  hands on is better.  your own hives will teach you the most, and it will be a lifetime learning process. 

there are quite a few folks from the PNW on here.  one or two down your way.  many in Washington.  glad you found us.

Dexter, welcome to our forum, glad you found us.  You are preparing well for the beginnings of the most curious and wonderful adventure of your lifetime.  You wil become a great keeper of the honeybee.   That was cool that you have studied and read so hard, and felt over-prepared when you went to the beginner class, awesome.  The more you delve into that secret life of the honeybee, the more you will want to travel deep down the rabbit hole, there is no end to it by the way, smiling.  You will find, once you get the bees too, how deeply they will hold you beneath their spell, it is a beautiful thing.  Ask your questions, all questions are important, and there will be many that you will want to ask, feel free to do this thing.  Stick around, we love new members.  Have the most wonderful and awesome day, with that same health, love and peace, Cindi
