I'm looking at getting a new iron and thought some of you might know of cheaper sources. It needs to be propane fired with an interchangeable head as we have two different reg# to burn.

Any thoughts?

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

they have interghanable letters on some heads or a fixed set of letters and numbers-they also ofer 3/4inch
that way you can brand your frames-around here they will just steal your frames out of the boxes-beerustuling

Hardwood; we've looked at them all since we need a replacement also. Found no cheaper prices than the folks that advertise in the Bee Journals.

Thanks for the replies...those are  in line with what I've been looking at. I was kinda hoping there might be a harbor freight type of cheapo out there but I guess not.

Lessons learned...don't keep your good irons out in the weather for more than 5 years or so :'(

Which type did you get?  Is it torch or electric?  Are the electrics ok for small scale use?  Do they burn as deeply?

Mine is propane.  I have it on one of those tanks like you use on your BBQ... an electric won't get hot enough to be of much use.  The propane one takes a while to get hot enough as it is...

Scott think i saw them in the last Rockler book i got here is a link to their stuff

ever considered a small mapp gas torch set?  mapp gas is one of the hotter burning gases you can get and should heat the irons quicker.  Not to metion it comes in handy when ya need to do some serious metal cutting aka West Virginia cresent wrench.   :-D

I ended up ordering from brandnew.com. They gave me the best price and were great to work with. I'm expecting my new iron tomorrow.
