And if you look closely, I think they were eating as much brood as they were honey.

I guess Walmart is just too far away for them to run to on a daily basis.

Hey JP, If you go do that hive, I bet Schawee won't go up there. I don't think they have vanilla shakes up that high!

Subsistence dining at it best.   Or it might just be an average day for these folks and the tv people were making a big deal out of it.   If the aboriginal (big word for native) people  were acting weird or crazy, I would think that was a special treat, but I think that man had climb that tree before.

I only know of one other beekeeper that routinely does removals shirtless :-P

These are primitive people taking each day at a time, living off of what they can gather or catch, a very primal existence. They "do" because they have to. Ok, so they don't have to climb 120' to get honey but its something really special to the guy's wife, everyone enjoys the honey, they get to watch a good show and the guy gets lucky that night.  :-D

This guy learned he had a unique talent for climbing. He found this out one day when he changed his mind about killing himself. He was going to throw himself off of a cliff because he lost his job and was feeling down on his luck but discovered he could climb like the monkeys he studied in his native home.

don't you know that this is how we control our husbands after we have been  married a bit?  it has nothing to do with the honey.

That Monkey King is awesome JP. India has its share of unusual people with unusual skills.

I am amazed at this video of the honey gatherer. I cannot believe how many stings he got but just ignored it all for the honey and to make his family happy.  I think he deserves to get lucky for that :-D :-D :-D

If you have the opportunity check out Stan Lee's Super humans http://www.history.com/shows/stan-lees-superhumans this is where I saw footage of the Monkey king dude. In that segment he climbed a vertical cliff much harder to climb than the block wall in the aforementioned video.

Kathy, why do you think he keeps going up there 120' from the ground, where many friends have died trying?  :-D

even if i did get honey out of that tree the urine stains would taint it all!!  :hissyfit:

and the terrible sound of me screaming like a girl would kill any joy of being out in the woods.  :jawdrop:

But the cash and assets don't go over with you to the younger model.
I think I'll keep my "aged" one, same as my wine. It just keeps getting better each year.

I think that fellow is even braver than JP

I have noticed that a few women have done the same thing when the old man wasn't as fantastic as he thought he was.

Let's hope that hasn't been your problem.

As far as climbing a tree, I still say ouch on the ground.

Or it might just be an average day for these folks and the tv people were making a big deal out of it.

Considering that they have carved footholds into the trunk of the tree to make climbing it easier, (check out the 19 second mark) I'd say honey has been removed from this tree many times.  Whenever they rob the hive, it likely moves to a new location in the tree.

The tree is probably like Beech trees - when they get that big, they are all hollow.

JP

Dave, I have my limit on heights. I'm with Bailey on this one. You would have to pry my hands off the tree to get me down from that height!

Tete is the man!
