Had a guy offer me a hive that is in an old out building of his.  He doesn't need the out building either and is just waiting for the hive to go, so he can tear it down.  How early can I do a cut out.  Do I watch the weather and temps?  Would it be okay if it is going to be above 50 for a week and then drops back down to below freezing?   Or do I have to wait until no more freezing temps?

thanks

I usually wait until the night time temps are consistently in the 40s and they are bringing in pollen.

if you could wait even untl next month, it would be better.  i don't  take them this early because it's to hard on the hive and they usually don't make it.  + if there are not eggs and you miss/kill the queen, the hive is done.

if it has to be done now, and you just want to do it for the experience.....

If it must be done now, and since the building does not have to be salvaged,  I would consider relocating the wall, or wherever they have the nest built, in tact and then do the cut out at a later date.

I will not do a cutout unless the temp is 70 plus and sunny. I tell them if the bees are going to be killed anyway, they can do it, not me.
