i would like to place my first hive on the side of m house in what i can only call an ally, it is a space that is about 5 feet wide and runs the length of my house. it runs north and south my house is on the east side and a fence on the west side. the ally ends with a small fence on the north end with the south end being open. i would like to put the hive on the small fence with the opening facing south, the way i would have to aproach it. what do you think? i rally need the feed back since this would be my first hive.

The main thing is that on any side that is not your yard, they have a fence high enough that they have to fly up over peoples heads before they leave so any neighbors aren't dealing with a stream of low flying bees.  That and make sure they always have water.
