Hi All,

Newbee here. I was trolling the internet tonight and found this.

OOPS! I can't yet post links! Just do a search on the phrase, "build a scale to weigh bee hives", without the quotation marks and the first thing that pops up is this device at instructables dot com.

Apparently we should all kinda know how heavy our hives are in the fall. I'd been thinking of some kind of torque wrench and lever system, but this could be promising. I'm not yet experienced in the "akinbac" method of determination. :-D

I bought the parts for that scale device last winter. It's on the list to build - really.

I finally surfed over to your hive weight link and was pretty impressed!  What I really liked about the design is its portability from hive to hive.  With the one device, you could weigh your entire bee yard.  The downside seems to be the maximum weight it can measure.  I would probably try to add a lever arm into the system to boost the weight range the sensor could detect.
