In this case they were on California poppies (Escholtzia californica)-great for pollen but little nectar, Lambs ears (Stachys byzantina), Catnip (Nepeta 'Six hill's Giant') -great for aromatic nectar, and California sage (Salvia clevelandii) Very aromatic and good nectar.

Thanks so much. I used a Canon powershot SD1300. It is inexpensive (<$150) but produces amazing photos and video. You have to spend time learning how to use it, though.

Watching bees (or anything in nature) is certainly better and a lot more interesting/entertaining than watching TV.

Its those who do not watch (who do not care) that cause me concern. I fear the non-watchers greatly outnumber the watchers which can explain much, although it does little to reduce the frustration of it all.

Nice work with the camera enchplant! I liked the lambs ear part. Maybe I shouldn't have just pulled out a whole bed of the stuff. It is invasive around here.

I agree with Thomas, watching nature is so much more rewarding than watching TV. I love to sit and watch the entrance of my hives. There is something very relaxing about seeing so much work being done without constant arguing.

ditto. I love to sit and have my morning coffee watching the girls come and go.

Thanks so much. The yellow bee was an italian cordovan. The queen came from Koehnen's in California. They sell great big queens that produce productive bees. http://www.koehnen.com
