Hello all, Just had my 1st Dept of Ag inspection, was not at home, note left by inspector said top and bottom both have brood BUT getting honey bound, what does he mean by getting honey bound? Should I do something? Anything to be concerned about?

I think honey bound means that room is running out in the brood chamber because the bees have stored a lot of honey there thus taking up cells that the queen needs to lay eggs in.  I'm not sure what you should do, but I think if you have some frames with no brood in them but filled with honey in the brood chamber you could move them up into a super and replace them with empty or drawn out frames to give the queen room to lay more eggs.

I think if the queen doesn't have room to lay she yells out something like "OK girls, start packing your bags...we're going to find us a bigger pad!".....swarm???

I'm just a rank newbie who knows *almost* enough to be dangerous.  I'm sure one of the experienced beeks will give you some guidance.

Best wishes!

American blood spilled to protect the freedom and peace of people all over the world.  320,000 USA casualties in WWI, 1,076,000 USA casualties in WWII, 128,000 USA casualties in the Korean War, 211,000 casualties in the Vietnam "conflict", 57,000 USA casualties in "War on Terror".  Benghazi, Libya, 13 USA casualties. These figures don't include 70,000 MIA.  But, the leaders of one political party of the United States of America continue to make the statement..."What difference does it make?".

Read the Management Schemes section of http://www.beekeeping.com/articles/us/small_beekeeping/beekeeping_essence.htm
for an explantion of honey bound.
Excellent reading, Mike.  This explains a lot of what I was asking earlier about sustaining the hive after the honey flow.  Thanks for posting the link!
