My Aunt said that she hears a sound like corn popping coming from her hive...does anyone know what that is?

Yep....my first thought was if any styrofoam or insulation board was being used. I use pink wall board for some tops, and if placed too soon in the season, or if warm weather returns, the bees will chew small tunnels and sometimes even make an entrance. You can hear them chewing on the stuff.
