Show us your hive!

Hey All,

My wife and I are new to beekeeping and recently bought our hive bodies. As we've been working to assemble the pieces we started to think about how we should paint them. We've seen a several photos of nicely painted hives, some more elaborate than others, and thought it would be interesting to see some pictures of what others have done. Perhaps it will even give us a few ideas.

So, if you have some pictures, we'd love to see them!

Hello and Welcome,
I only have an idea to share with you.  I saw these at a beginners course once.  They had supers there that were painted with a lace pattern.  They painted the supers with a base coat that they wanted the color of the lace pattern to be.  Then stretched the lace over each side tightly, one side at a time, and spray painted over the lace with a color that they wanted to be the background color.  I don't have any pictures of the supers themselves but I do have a few pic of this technique done on other things.








Hope these ideas help you out some.  I plan on doing some of my supers this way as well before spring b/c my wife really liked it.

I like the idea and those equations are fine for the newbees.  But for the prospective forager who must learn to fly, may I suggest the Bernouilli Equation:

Bluebee, what are the patterns to the left of the entrances?  Are you testing orientation symbols?

When that started there were a lot of photo host sites that went belly up.And a lot of people would delete their personal photo sites making the links dead.

Just a glamour shot...usually these sit off the ground, with two stacked cinderblocks at each end, and a couple of pieces of scrap wood on top of that to hold a sticky board when I need one.

I like the looks of the horizontal hive. Is that three seperate covers to the dimensions of supers?

The first two are still in the original location from 2008.  The second pict shows the new location & hives from 2011.

Hemlock, are you putting in a gas line to heat those hives?

Those are some nice looking hive stands and hives.  I was kind of hoping to see a bear or two painted on them though  :)
