Man what a day I had and more to come tomorrow. I'm new to beekeeping this year and have my first two packages coming tomorrow. Well today while at work a coworker that knew I'm starting beekeeping called me and said a swarm was on the job. Checked with safety and they said I could get them. They were on a fence but I got half of them in the box and to my delight the rest of them just walked right in like soldiers, dang it was great. Luckly I had three hives put together and ready for bees.

I put them in the hive, with baggie feeder in a empty super on top, in the shade. I hear I should keep them shut up for a day or two. Any more ideas?

This is just to exciting.

Ya done good!  If you have any brood from another hive, a frame of that will anchor your swarm pretty decisively.   Just stay out of the box for about ten days and then check to see if you have a queen.

Ditto on the brood......with eggs.

Good Luck,

Gotta love when things go your way!
Good luck with your packages!

Fortune smiles on you.   :-D   Don't keep them closed up for more than a couple of days.  Or not at all.

Thanks, hope my luck continues but I understand from reading that nothing in the bee world is certain.

No brood to put in as I'm totally a new beekeeper.

FRAMEshift-- I got them in a cardboard box yesterday at 12:00 and in the hive about 6:00 pm. so you think I should move them to their perimanent location and let them out say about dark tonight?

All is well so far. I opened up the swarm hive and put the three frams I had taken out back in. Had some flyers but by dark all had gone in.

Got my other two packages in without a hitch. Queen looked good. Went faster than I thought it would. The bees from the packages are all in the hive now that it's dark.

Been reading, Y-tube watching and talking to beekeepers and looking on this site for two months and the day finely got here.

Hope they all stay.
