today i got my 7th swarm call in 2 weeks. turned this one down because i'm out of woodenware.  i put a swarm in a nuc yesterday. i was in the process of building & assembling hives when he called. i'll be ready for the next call. if the weather cooperates tomorrow i'll access what's going on with the queens in the other 3 swarms i caught.

Never overlook the value of a plain cardboard box.

Or a paper grocery bag, they made it home with me! :-D

cooler with some screen duct taped over it...

those cardboard nuc boxes are handy to keep around too.

I carry around one of those empty file folder boxes or the boxes that reams of paper comes in and a roll of duct tape.  You can break down the box and lid and it fold up flat and out of the way.  When your ready, assemble the box...

i catch them in a 3 gallon pvc bucket. the sides & bottom have ventilation holes & the lid an 8" X 8" screen. my concern was what to do with them once i got them home. how long can you leave them in a bucket or box? i going to have to vent a 5 gallon bucket as well. wednesday's swarm barely fit in the 3 gallon bucket. i was also out of assembled frames.

AllenF

You can leave them in there until time to cut them out and tie the combs into frames.

allen- you're saying it's ok to leave them in a vented bucket for a day? that was my concern the other day. at least i'm ready for more now. i built & painted 5 screened bottom boards, 5 med supers, 5 hive bodies, & 2 outer covers. the way the phone has been ringing that should hold me til wednesday.
