I Checked some of my hives out in the Yarra valley VIC and the bees must have got onto some good late autumn early winter nectar!
I took this photo today.

I love that crinkled white capping! Something special about it :)

All my hives are working over time at the moment. I extracted 35kgs on Saturday. All the hive also had drone brood between the boxes aswell. My mentor tells me this a sign that the winter(or at least the cold) is over. Could have fooled me though, damm cold this morning  :-\

Seems our cold is only just starting!

My wife says the girls didn't fly at all today, I'm hoping it was just due to the cold day today and nothing else. Tomorrow is supposed to be crappier so I don't suppose they'll be getting out much for a little while.

Got a couple of cool sunny days here the girls have been coming out in the cold except for when its raining, these carnies dont seem as fussed with the cold, but its breaking my heart seeing all the flower here and knowing the cold will stop it yeilding much.

All good, they were out yesterday when the weather was a bit milder.

Thought I'd update the topic which is a month behind.

Or maybe it should be called "Dry Season Rain".  AKA Bees have to look after themselves.

Finally got a chance to do my first extraction, had 2 ten frame supers full and capped off. So I extracted 10 frames and ended up with 16-17 litres of honey.

Great!  How does it taste?

Very nice flavour and light in colour, not sure what they've been collecting. We have a lot of native trees along the back of our block and lots of flowering plants in the neighbourhood.

I like to call it Multifloral Mystery Honey. :-D
