Thanks for the words of encouragement!  If I could, I'd bring the hive inside for the night but my family wouldn't be too receptive to this (!).  I really wish I knew some way to keep them warm until these freezing nights are over.

I believe my package was a 3 pound one.  There were about 11,000 bees total.

Have you giving them pollen patty.

I just put a pollen patty in when we inspected on Sunday.  Other beekeepers in the area are saying there is plenty of pollen out right now but I thought I should cover all the bases. It was warm today (in the upper 60's) and there was a little activity around the hive entrance.  By little, I mean a bee here and there flying in and flying out.  I was heartened as yesterday it was cold and I saw and heard absolutely nothing and thought maybe all had perished.
