So after great anticipation I made my first harvest. I had three supers of honey, but only got two pulled before rain. Anyhow I extracted two 10 frame shallows and got just 5 gal of golden goodness.  :piano:
I lucked up and found a local club that had an extractor and a member willing to demo to me. So now i'm in the club.
Now clean up is a different story.

Just to be clear.... You got 5gal. of honey from 10 shallow frames?

Thanks scbee. Yes 20 shallow frames. I was pretty proud of the girls.

I am hoping to sneak a couple of frames out of my larger hive here soon. It will be cut and crush, but all I need is enough to give a few gifts to those that have helped me out this year.

As I have a much weaker small hive I would like to get through the winter, I might have to share. We will see as the summer comes closer to a close. I feel an early fall.

So here is to your Girls!!!!  :cheer:

Mscarol. The Elk Valley beekeepers Assoc. has equipment for it's members to use. I went to my first meeting monday and used the equipment tuesday. Membership is free. You can contact the Franklin County Ag Extention agent. I realize your in Fayetteville area but look into it. I'd be happy to help anyway I can.

Forrestcav,

once I get a more reliable vehicle, then making the meetings might not be such an issue....(although....like a bee.....I hate driving at night!!)

There a couple of county contacts that I can make.....especially with the fair coming on.

This year.......don't need much

I remember my first harvest as being the most exciting thing I have ever done. I was swooning when I saw all that beautiful golden honey in that bucket.

Congratulations on your first harvest and many more to come
