What kind of bee is this?

I thought I was photographing a Honeybee on some Goldenrod...

Looks like a type of fly to me. Maybe a robber fly?

I agree as well, looks very "fly like" the eyes are the give away.

Don't discount it because it is "just a fly". They are still important pollinators.

All critters of every kind are welcome in my yard. I use no pesticides or herbicides...I don't allow the big Hunter Spiders or Jumping spiders in the house but they can live in the yard. Same for snakes etc. You'll find most everything on my blog. I think that "fly" is kind of neat.

I have that same bug on the flowers next to my wife's garden in Baker county. This year is the first time I have seen them. I also thought they were a bee imitator.
