I am thinking to feed bees with brown sugar syrup due to the soar of sugar price. Will this cause side effect to bee's health? is ratio 1:1 okey?

errrm, i'm not sure, but i think someone told me brown sugar isn't good. it has too many other ingredients which aren't good for bees is they can't defacate for a very long time. it clogs their digestive organs during the winter, result-dead or sick bees. but note, i'm not 100% sure.

Hi all

Feeding bees brown sugar will cause dysentry. It will have a disastrous effect particularly in the Winter, Don't do it what ever the reason.

Brown sugar is poisonous to bees.

"Unrefined sugars have poisoned bees. The toxic factors in molasses and in brown sugars have not been identified."

Brown sugar is just sugar and molasses mixed.

Get the drift?  Don't feed you bees brown sugar or any other unrefinded sugar.  it causes dysentary (Nosema) and will wipe out your hive during the winter.

Walmart has a sugar brand "ZULKA" When I make 1-1 syrup it is slightly brown  The sugar is very very light brown.  It is made in Mexico.  The cost is about 12 cents per pound cheaper.   what is the conscience of the beeks on using this sugar for fall feeding during the dearth. paus

It is minimally refined so it could be a grey area.

NO FEED BROWN SUGAR!!!!

Beeboy01

Six pounds of brown sugar, two cut up pineapples and a pack of champange yeast in 5 gallons of water makes a real fine pineapple wine if anybody is interested.
Feeding brown sugar to the bees, not a good idea, make wine instead

Don't be 'penny wise and pound foolish' as used to be said. Trying to find a way to save a few pennies at the risk of losing your hives is not worth it.

5 qts of honey in 4.5 gallons of water with a champagne yeast is even better.  But you have to wait a year.

Around here bees cost a lot more than 12 cents per pound.  I would not feed it to my hives.
