Well I went to see the Doc yesterday and shore enough I'm going to have Hernia Surgery on my stomach the 8th of September.
Now if I don't have anymore attacks from that hernia I have a lot of bees to get in order before the 8th.
I'm going to be off my feet for a month or so.
I've got trap-outs to bring in, swarm traps full of bees to get hived and test my hives for that gawd awful varroa mite.
I'll have to get someone to treat my hives when the temperatures drop in the 80 degree F range.
Oh well at least I'll should be healed up and ready for spring.
Anyhow just gonna let ya'll know that I'll be off the computer for a couple of weeks.

Wait a minite now.  I've  had a colon resection, followed a year later by surgery to fix a surgical hernia because I had a dirty-fingered surgeon.   I know that's going to cut down on your time working the bees, but how's that supposed to keep you off the computer?  You'll still have a lot to contribute to the forum, without any heavy lifting.

Seriously, good luck and get out of the hospital ASAP.  Your contributions to the forum will be missed.  Just be glad the surgery is not in March!

Best of luck to you. My man had hernia surgery last year and faired very well. I'm sure you'll be up chasing bees soon enough. I hope you have lots of help.

You're going in for surgery for a hernia and before that happens you plan on doing a lot of heavy lifting of the hives. As they say in telegrams, STOP. Your health comes first. You can really have serious complications from trying that. Your bees will be fine. If they were feral no one would be doing any of that.
I would bee ready to bet some young beek from your local club would love to work your hives with you watching and guiding them.

Get some help with those hives. Someone, even if they aren't a beek, can do the lifting for you. Just ask. I helped another older beek just last week and another beek let us use his extractor for free. So I am going to help him as soon as he is ready to work his hives. Beeks in general are pretty willing to lend a hand or a piece of equipment, for free even sometimes.

Capt  Sorry to hear about your up and coming surgery.  But think how great it will be to have that behind you! My husband just had hernia repair surgery at the beginning of August. He is a guitarist and I have to step in and be a "roadie" :-D   Don't be afraid to ask someone to give you a hand or two until you get back on your feet, even then, you may not be able to any heavy lifting...ever.   I'll keep you in my prayers and I wish you a very speedy recovery.

Angie, Hernia repair; Did he get a screen put in? Having a cut from below the belt line downwards at a 45 degree angle? If so, I know what he went through. My wife had to help me get out of bed and the recliner. I've never be so helpless in all my life. Took about 2 to 3 weeks before I started coming around. I didn't take the pain meds but for 24 hours. I wanted to feel the pain so I wouldn't mess up and end up having another one.

Capt, sho nuff, you get you some help. I just paid some high school boys $10 an hour to load some hay I bought on a trailer, then stack it in my shed. Best money I've spent in a long time. 99 degrees that afternoon. All I had to do was re stack some and put a tarp over it.
