I'm new to Beemaster and new to beekeeping (May, 2013). I have 14 hives located in northwest Louisiana. I like reading old beekeeping books and learning from experienced and not so experienced beekeepers. I haven't used any treatments and don't plan to (so hit me with a stick). I'm waiting for the varroa crash(s), but so far my little feral/Russian/VSH mutts are doing well.

If you put location in your profile it will give a lot more context to your posts.  :) Welcome to the forum.

How did you get the 14 hives?

Welcome to Beemaster. 14 hives to begin? Wow. You jumped straight in didn't you :-D
Quite difficult matters can be explained even to a slow-witted man, if only he has not already adopted a wrong opinion about them; but the simplest things cannot be made clear even to a very intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he already knows, and knows indubitably, the truth of the matter under consideration. -Leo Tolstoy

Welcome, ditto on the location thing.
