They haven't bothered anything in my hives there is usually one or two under the top on the inner cover, I think the bees keep them in check. I still smash em even though I don't think they are there to eat anything the bees want but waste. G

Mickey,
I see them in my observation hive during the winter when the population drops. They wander around the areas that are not covered in bees. Around December 22 the queen starts laying and the hive starts growing, usually from the bottom frame, near the entrance, up. Eventually the bees cover the entrance and then fill the hives. As the population grows the roaches slowly disappear. They do not survive in a strong hive and are not able stay in sections covered with bees.

They like to go into the top of my Screen Top Boards. The bees cannot get to them and it stays warm. I also kill them every time I see them.

If the roaches are in the hive proper, I figure the bees have too much space.  If they are on the inner cover or other tight places, I don't worry about them.
