Entrance hole in each deep

I saw a picture of a hive with an entrance hole in each box (deep) This makes sense to me as the bees can go to their desired destination in the hive rather than the top or bottom and walk a long way to the top.

I make my own gear and a hole is easy to drill in each box.

Anybody have an opinion or suggestion?

That works for a good strong hive.  If they get weak for any reason it can cause problems...  I use a lower entrance.. reduced 3/8 bu about 3 to 4 inches and an upper entrance of about 3/8 by 1 inch...  All year long, hot or cold.
If I have issues, do splits etc, I can slap a piece of duct tape over the top entrance until they are once again strong enough to guard both.  You could do the same with holes drilled in the boxes/supers.
