My daughter and I baited a cardboard box to see if we could catch a swarm, now we have about to bees coming and going every once in a while. Are these scouts? What should I be looking for?

Not much you can do until they move in. If you see pollen going in, your good.

I am probly the least experiance person on this forum.  When the two swams I have caught had 30 or so bees going in and out and coming and going I had swarms move in with in an hour.  I did not see the traps when they started so don't know how long that 30 or so bees were doing that but when I did notice they were doing it they moved in while I was watching.  One swarm was early morning and on was exactly at 2 pm.  I looked at my empty hives while this was going on and they had onesies and twosies bees checking them also but you could tell the differrance on the one they liked.

I don't know if this imformation helps of not but good luck.  It took me two years to catch a swarm with a dozen traps.  I didn't really change anything the second year it just took that long for me.
Good luck

What type of bees are these most likely? Sorry. I'm new to this.

Mutts, the best kind. I call them mutts because behind some of them's wings is one color and behind another one is a different color. Overall probably Italians.

Thanks. I have gotten them to go into the swarm box. Tomorrow night I plan on putting them into my hive.

If the swarm box has frames leave them a while. They might not like the juggling unless you are going to give them some brood. If not move....

No frames. I am new so I didn't think about it and didn't have any yet. I got my box together and will be putting them in tonight.

I moved them, for some reason all of them had gone into my swarm box and then 3/4 of those clustered in my gutter. So they were split 3 ways. I tried to get all the bees I could from each location. I just hope I got the queen.

This morning I went outside and a few bees that remained were in a different location on the gutter. Like maybe 20 bees.

what is your location? it helps to know where you are at for some issues. Bees will be attracted to where the other bees were clustered for a bit. 20 bees is not a problem. 2 lbs of bees or more is a problem

I am in Carrollton, Kentucky, I was moving them from a swarm box in one part of my yard to a hive in another. I just got them in the hive tonight I think. Although I believe their chances of living are low. There is only about a baseball to softball sized ball of bees.

sent you a PM.. put your location in your profile
