I messed up and left a gap in my lid where it is not on tight. Maybe a 1 or 2 inch gap I was told between the box and the lid on one corner. Do I need to fix it or will it be ok for another week or so?

It would take a photo to understand what you mean.

It is not flush with the deeps. It has either warped or I put it off somehow. My dad told me about it today.

What do you mean by "lid"? Inner cover? Telescoping cover? Migratory cover? A honey super? Is the gap vertical or horizontal? Is this even a Langstroth hive? If you Google "hive components" and then use the standard terminology it will help us envision what you are talking about.

If his dad saw it, let's assume it is visible from the outside and most likely a migratory outer cover. That is what I assume everyone means when they say 'lid' because it goes on top - I can't think of anybody who would call a honey super a lid!

bwallace - if your outer cover has a gap only on one corner the lid must be warped? If you put it on wrong there should be equal but opposite gaps at other areas. I don't use an inner cover (just a lid over the super) so if this was to happen with my hives I would have a top entrance formed and bees would be coming and going, so I would fix it ASAP. If you have an inner cover then you might not have an issue? Best thing to do is go check it yourself

So I assume that it is a migratory cover.  If it is open to the weather and there is a chance of rain then I would do something about it.  If no chance of rain the bees will just use it as a second entrance.

No chance of rain but I have decided to just go and fix it today at lunch.

Take a pic, I'm really curious about what the problem is.

Warped by 2 inches?  What were you using for wood whiskey barrels?

I will try to get a pick when I get out there sometime today or tomorrow.

Ok so my dad was kinda off on what he said. The lid was on just fine but not on square. No worries.
