The Worst Places To Get Stung By A Bee: Nostril, Lip, male organ
Posted Thu, 04/3/2014

It started when a honeybee flew up Michael Smith?s shorts and stung him in the testicles.

Smith is a graduate student at Cornell University, who studies the behaviour and evolution of honeybees. In this line of work, stings are a common and inevitable hazard. ?If you?re wearing shorts and doing bee work, a bee can get up there easily,? he says. ?But I was really surprised that it didn?t hurt as much as I thought it would.?

That got him thinking: Where?s the worst place on the body to get stung?

I have already been stung on the lip but by a wasp. Still was the worst sting I have ever had.

AR Beekeeper

My most painful spot is just inside the nostril opening.

iddee

The nostril is second worst to me. Outside edge of eye, where upper and lower eyelid connect, is the most painful. Tip of tongue is the most aggravating.

Worst place! The tongue! Will doing a over head space Dropped section of honey comb on head. Removed hood to clean face and opened mouth to breathe. Wiped face with wet rag with bee on it and got in mouth.

Has anyone ever got one directly in the eyeball?

On top of chest, over the heart, not fun, felt like someone was hitting me inside the chest with a sledgehammer, so many sensations I've never experienced in all my years of beekeeping. Stings do nothing to me, even my lip and nose, nothing.
I'll take a lip or nose hit any day over that scary experience.

I was shocked that the palm of the hand ranked so high.

Psparr - search youtube for bee stinger removed from retna (eyeball). (I don't have access to youtube where I'm at) The barb usually breaks off when you remove the venom sack. This poor soul had to have surgery to remove it.

I'd say the most memorable was also the inside of my nose. I don't wear shorts. I figure they'd bite me on the but and as soon as I got in public it'd go to itching...

The guy who did this must be a little crazy to intentionally sting himself in a few of those places

I have to agree with Divemaster. The tongue for me too.

I evidently had a bee get on some comb i was going to sample off of my hive tool while I was opening my veil.

Probly not the most painful hit, but definitely the most uncomfortable several hours I ever spent afterwards. Good thing it was just on one side of the tongue. It would have been very bad, had both sides swelled.

JackM

I would like to know how to scratch a tongue.   :cheesy:

As one looks these over, the worst is where the nerves are, face, hand, etc.

It also depends on how quickly you get the venom sac off.  Difficulty in doing so would increase the effects.

The link is 404.

Yes, it burned and felt like glass pieces were in my eye.  My eyes watered so bad that I had tears dripping off my chin.  I went to the eye doctor, he put a numbing agent in, then a dye.  He found the stinger sticking out of my eye and removed it.  I figured I would have a terrible recovery, but that was about it, no swelling, no itching.  Surprised the heck out of me but that's my experience.

That's good to know bee supporter, I still have that image in my mind of that person having surgery on their eyeball to get the stinger out.

I still can't get over someone doing this to themselves.

Kind of a sexist result... did he interview any females with similar stings?  There are a lot more nerves per square inch there...

Yes, as jackm says, the link doesn't work, but I found it...

Hm, which is the same as the op posted. Not sure if it'll work now but if you copy and paste the title he provided with the date into google, it comes right up. It's kind of a funny article. ...?It?s painful, and there?s definitely no crossing of wires of pleasure and pain down there,? he says. ?But if you?re stung in the nose and male organ, you?re going to want more stings to the male organ over the nose, if you?re forced to choose.? Lol

I don't have too much experience with stings yet but my most painful sting so far was the side of the index finger.
I'd rather be playing with venomous insects

Been stung in the gems before... not as bad as one might think

Got stung by a Yellow jacket on the inside of cheek. No fun! Does that count?

On the piece of skin between the nostrils. My eyes watered for a while. Good thing I don't swell up, my nose is big enough!
