Has anyone used these to keep out wasps or Hornets?

I'm in Japan and we have gaunt Hornets that are 5 times the size of bees, so I'm sure it will keep them out but not sure if it will work for wasps too?

Lololololol yes I wouldn't be buying one from them although eBay has Chinese copies for a few dollars

But as another member mentioned, 1/4 inch wire net will do the same thing

ditto but I would set it up as like a robbing screen away from true entrance with finer mesh at entrance so that the hornets can not get close to the main entrance it's self.

That's an interesting idea! So are you suggesting to make a larger landing area and then make the guard and a top of fine screen and entrance cover? Any pictures?

Here is a robber screen. It attaches to the front of the hive. The robbers go toward the entrance where the smell comes from. The house bees find the entrance at the top after a day or two. For the hornets, I would cut the uprights at 5/16 in. rather than 3/8 inch.

but i would use smaller screen i the lower half of it to not let the bees get thru and maybe a little deeper so the bees will climb the wall instead of the screen.  maybe add a bug zapper to the lower part after the bees get use to the new entrance to zap the hornets when they checkout the hive. they have battery powered ones that might work.

One good hand?? I use one finger. You should be 5 times as fast with a whole hand.      :cheesy:

It's a good system! It appears the Hornets are in late summer and not from spring. But I will do more research on that
I read that once the Hornets get the smell of honey they will be persistent for a few days so they will find the upper entrance after a while so I will need the smaller screen at the entrance as you suggested as a final block to protect them.

It would be great to zap the Hornets when the touched it as long as the bees didnt

i would set a second screen about 1/2 inch away from the entrance that zaps them. it should be far enough away and isolated from the main screen to not hit the bees.

Hmm I'm going to start looking at a design
It's early enough to make a lot of mistakes till I can find something that works and Zappa them
If I can zap the first hornet it will prevent them signaling to the others
