My 10 year old Grandson and I spent Saturday afternoon building boxes and frames. He is very interested in keeping bees, so I'm trying to pass on the limited knowledge I have. It really got his attention when we got out his Great Great Grandfathers beekeeping tools.
I am very pleased to see him taking a keen interest.

I remember well the joy I had when a grandson was enthralled with the bees.  Then he had a genuine throat swelling allergic reaction to a wasp sting and he is now in the bees nevermore crowd.

I'm a second generation bee keeper and get a real kick out of using my Dad's hive tools and extractor bought back in the 60's. Even have some 45 year old outer covers and boxes that are doing well. Good to hear young blood is showing an interest.  :)

45 year old equipment, must be pleasing.....  My Grandpa raised bees, not in bee boxes rather hollowed out cuts of Oak about 40 inches tall.  Painted white standing vertice on a concrete slab, 3 hives side by side under huge homestead oaks.
I have been around bees a long time, since birth.  I am a hobbyist so my answers often reflect this fact.  I concentrate on genetics, raise my own queens by wet graft, nicot, with natural or II breeding.  I do not sell queens, I will give queens  for free but no shipping.

Getting ready for an Expansion Year

Made a 'Killer Deal' on deeps, supers, frames, bottoms, inner covers from the widow of a deceased beekeeper.......I didn't try to set the price, I let her do that.

Have two grand-daughters, ages 17 and 11, who have been assisting in assembling boxes

and installing foundation on frames.

And who want to 'suit-up' and help later.

And two more grand-daughters who will probably want to join in once the first two start talking about it.

I adore post by beeks that include the kids or in this case, grandkids.  A very good thing.

I have great memories of helping my Grandfather on his farm. Some of the best times in my life. Maybe Buddy will say the same in 50 years.
I guess I should order him his first bee suit.
