I've never had my bees where I can sit and watch them like now in the back yard.

Either I've missed a lot or age makes me appreciate the simple things.

My bees have to fly up about 4.5 feet to get over the fence and then ZOOM!

When they return I wonder why they do not crash!

Amazing creatures.  Amazing.
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

Father Michael:  a response to your age remark.

My niece ask me not long ago about aging.  My answer was, I am slower, not as strong, teeth are issues, hearing is not as well as when young, HOWEVER, contrary to public thought my eye site has improved tremendously with aging.  For now I see beautiful things that I was blind to as a kid.  Beautiful things everywhere I look that I overlooked when younger.  Yes Sir, eye site improves with age.

I have been around bees a long time, since birth.  I am a hobbyist so my answers often reflect this fact.  I concentrate on genetics, raise my own queens by wet graft, nicot, with natural or II breeding.  I do not sell queens, I will give queens  for free but no shipping.

LOVE THIS !
When the lid goes back on, the bees will spend the next 3 days undoing most of what the beekeeper just did to them.

A cousin was asking for a -beecam-.  I captured this on a typical day and tossed it up on youtube.  Uses the slow-mo feature on the iPhone.
It is a setting similar to what you describe, with a 6 foot neighbourly fence they have to rise over to get to the nearby field.
This link is one of three videos of the theme to view.  For best effect, Watch all three of them on the largest screen you have available to cast to.
Check it out. ENJOY!

Nice video THP.
It is amazing that with all of those bees coming and going, I never saw one collision.
I like how you could here each cylinder firing as the motorcycle drove by. At least it sounded like it.
