wanted to feed bees today cool rain . using large turkey roaster in medium super . removed roof and insulated shim . tops of frames covered with bees.brushed gees away for 1/2 in strips to go under the pan installed the med super and pan filled with syrup. put back insulated shim and roof.no stings no angry buzz no veil no gloves tee shirt.
how good can it get?

That's my normal attire, with light smoke. Those who try it without smoke only do it a few times before they learn to regret it.

don't own a smoker .have never smoked the bees.

Sometimes with no provocation. Sometimes you drop a brood box because you stepped in a gopher hole...

If you are truly a newbee your day is coming. I have lifted the cover many times without smoke, sometimes without a veil. But manipulating the hive is asking for it without a whole lot of experience and even then it is risky.
