Here is the second long lang I have built. Relatively cheap, but sturdy. I reconfigured the older one and made straight legs, so that I could add the guardian* bee entrances, a bottom entrance in the center and top entrance at the upper right. The other hive has a long top entrance partly closed by a reducer.
Both hives are made for standard deep frames and are 48 inches long. Each holds about 32 deep frames.

Cool, How has the first one done for you?

First one has done great. Long Langstroth are easy to get into, and work with. The bees wintered well and were busting at the seams this spring.

Looks good Bob, I hope you fill them all up.

Will be my next build but smaller, 20 frames.

Will be an insulated hive.  3/4 inch polyisocyanurate inside 3/4 inch Plytanium.

Need to learn how to make splits for expanding, and boosting weaker hives with brood and stores.

One might ask, "If this type of hive is good for all that ..."

Could be, eh?

41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?

42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

Michael. I believe that is why Cao keeps a few long hives on hand... For pulling brood frames other hives. I can only keep two colonies in my present location, so long hives were my choice for family honey production.

Really looking forward to building one.

Thinking of putting one of my nucs in it rather than one of the Paradise hives.

Looks good may make one experiment with.

I like to experiment with different hives and boxes.  I think the biggest advantage of long hives is that you have access to every frame without lifting heavy boxes.  I have five right now.  3 of which have bees that made it through the winter.

Bob, how has the Guardian entrance worked for you?

Just noticed the post date. Perhaps at end of season you can come back and give us a report?

Kelly. Too early to tell. SHB season is just now approaching. We shall see.
