This picture is from the eastern of Spain. From the Mediterranean side. A man harvesting honey in the cave of Bicorp. The Mediterranean art always has been stylized, contrasting with the Atlantic one. The Spanish northwest, the atlantic side, has a realistic art.

It looks like a woman with a man holding the ladder at the bottom. 
To bee or not to bee that is the question I wake up to answer that every morning...

That is definitely a woman.
So the man holds the ladder and sends the woman up to steal the honey, figures. ;)
