North Florida's hard freeze '08

just took a couple of pics this morning with the kids having fun.  Keep in mind that we only get this type of weather about one or two days a year so this is very fun.





Here is a lime tree that may not make it. I am the farthest north that you can be for citrus trees of any kind here in florida so I use the water to put a protective layer of ice around the tree so the tree never gets below 32f. I will know later today if it is going to make it or not so keep your fingers crossed.

Dallas, your kids are just so sweet, they look like they are having a blast!! Yea!!!!  Love your pooches too.  Some very nice pictures.  When you said you put a layer of ice around the lime tree, I thought you meant on the ground...until I looked at the picture itself.  What a shot!!!!  How on earth did you accomplish this feat, it is truly amazing!!!  Now, I would suggest that you put this picture into the forum for the wallpaper contest, it is wallpaper worthy for sure, hee haw!!!  Have a wonderful, great day.  Cindi

Well South Florida got hit with the freeze also. I have heard of lake effect snow but not ocean effect snow. Apparently we got some of that.

My bees have just got cojones of steel. It was around 40F/4.4C and my bees were flying. Not many but there was pollen being brought it. I could not friggen believe it.

The difference was at night when the freezing temps set in the bees could not be found around the propolis at the entrance. At night I can usually see some bees near the entrance. When the temps dropped not one be was to be found.

The bees seemed to do alright for the few cold nights we had.

We get ocean effect snow all the time, not as heavy as say, Tug Hill, NY's lake effect but it can be significant.
