I am cutting starter strips off the wax coasted plastic foundation...I used the file onmy Dremel tool, but it took a while...what type of saw is best?

Thanks~*~Sharon

Sharon...if you have any plain wax foudation ( no wires ) cut that into strips ( that's the easiest thing to use ) .  If all you have is the wax coated plastic foundation - other than the dremel tool a scroll saw would work.  You might want to try clamping the foundation down to a flat surface - put straight edge where you want to cut it and then score it with a utlity knife ( be careful ).  After you score it you can just snap it off at the scored line...

If all else fails just use empty frames - no strips at all.  They'll draw'm out just fine.

RDB, now there is a concept I hadn't thought of!  I used my Dremel tool...it did okay.

Thanks!

Scissors...?

Well, what was my idea......chopped liver... :? :-D

Steve, wah, wah, wah!!!  (kidding here). Exacto knives terrify me.  I use them, I have a special one that is really good and I can't cut myself very well with it.  Your idea was good for sure!!!!  Beautiful and wonderful day we live.  Cindi

What about a bandsaw with the fence guild to hold them straight?

Cutting shears or heavy duty scissors. Steve gets the credit for the scissors though.  ;)

Me also....  The utility knife ( box cutter ) does work though.  Be careful and wear resistant gloves.

Actually, I tried the scissor, the heavy duty paramedic type...no dice.  They cut but it took a lot of effort.  I thin somewhere I mentioned the nifty Dremel part that looks like a circle saw...wow,great little tool!!

A rotozip with the wood/drywall bit makes short work of plastic foundation.  Don't bother trying the tile cutting "Allcut" bits.  They melt the plastic as much as they cut it.  You can make some really fancy cuts with the rotozip, but it really helps to sandwich the foundation between something like masonite.  I cut a friend's logo into a sheet of deep plastic foundation (later when it was drawn we removed the logo portion, leaving a frame with his apiary logo in the middle) and the only way I could keep the foundation from breaking during the cuts was to sandwich it.

If you are fearful of using a utility knife I'd definitely steer clear of a band saw while you still have your fingers.

No worries, I found a dremel attachment that works great!

I use a pizza cutter.
