Assembling Wedge Top Frames

The box of wedge top frames came today.  The schematic it came with shows that there is a removable piece at the top.  I am not sure how to assemble this (not instructions really ).  Do I have to pry a piece off the top bar?

The small cell wired foundation I bought from Dadant is fragile...which end goes up, and there are wire hooks on one end.

Remove the wedge, just cut it off, I just run the hive tool down the length of the bar and it pops off.  Trim splinters and reattach with brads.

If there is no hook (curve at end of wire) then either end is up.

There are wire hooks along the the length of the foundation.  How do I deal with these?

The wire hooks go under the wedge at the top. So that when you place the wedge on there the crimps on the wire helps hold the foundation into the frames. What size are you using? Med or deep. You should cross wire it for more stablity.

I am using meds as the hive bodys and shallows as honey supers. I have 2 weeks and 4 days till I go and pick up my bees from Biggs Ca. And go to Sacramento. I am meeting someone at Sac bee Supply on the 30th around 2pm. Anyone close that wants to meet?

Well, I need a bit more information.  I used the hive tool to take the strip off the top.  I placed the wire hooks facing down onto the groove area of the top bar.  Then I place the strip I took off over that...do I also glue the foundation in? 

Which parts exactly get glued in?

I am guessing that the shorter nails go into the top bar, where do the long ones go?  Do they go onto the bottom/top piece where it fits to the sides?

When do I soak the wood, before or after gluing?  Please forgive me if that sounds stupid, but, whatever... :-\

I was successful in assembling them...hooray...hope they stay together!

Dont glue the foundation in how are you to replace it if you need to? YOu need to just nail the wedge in that way when the time comes then all you have to do is take the nails and pry and take out old and put in new.

Thanks Angi, but in the future my plan is just to cut out everything but a strip at the top...Ididn't glue the foundation in .

It is fun assembling the frames!
