Standing a few feet from one of my hives I could hear one bee inside making a loud beeping buzz sound. Sort  of the sound they might make if it was caught under something.
Beep Beep Beep, quiet quiet, Beep Beep Beep.  Maybe there was a traffic jam in the box?

maybe a queen peeping!!!! or should i say most probably!
i'm not sure if i got it right, but this usually occurs during a supercedure. when the old queen kind of, doesn't agree with being replaced so she summons her troops-with peeping and they leave-swarm.

I would remove the top cover and stick my head inside of the hive and see if it is a piping queen, if it is I would be unable to control myself because I have yet to experience this wonderful act. You are one lucky devil! Of course you must take my post with a grain of salt, do I have to say this, oh well.

If I know how many hives I've got, I haven't got enough.

Sometimes I hear what I think is a worker making a sound similar to a queen piping.  It's just not as distinct and not as loud.  I've often tried to track it down to see what's up, but have never been sure of who was making it.

Queens piping are similar but quite distinct.  When they are free it's a kind of zoot zoot zoot sound.  When they are still in the cell it's more of a quack quack quack sound.
