extracting methods

I was wondering if anyone has built there own extractor and how much it cost to build. Is there was any other was to extract with out ruining my drawn out comb. I was thinking of looking for a used extractor they are so expensive to buy new

I found a website that has a design for building your own extractor, but I didn't save it on this computer I'll look on my home one when i get home from work

There must be a "pirate" version of those plans somewhere. It seems a shame that Beekeepers can't share among themselves.

I'll bet the guy offering those plans doesn't even keep bees.

Eddie, if I may suggest, since you are just getting your feet wet, why not try and join your local or nearest beekeeping club or organization. There are people who would love to help you and may perhaps loan you an extractor or someone may have a used one they will sell you at a reasonable price.

Most clubs own an extractor that they loan out to members.  The keeper of my local clubs exxtractor is the club VP.  The club also owns an observation hive that fits above a 5 frame nuc--I forget the name of the model--and we use both at out display at the Skagit County Fair every August.  This year we're discussing letting the members sell their homegrown honey from the fair both.  The club gets 50 cents for each jar sold.

I just got through using my clubs extractor. Many clubs have their own club extractor, and those that don't are probably considering getting one. It's a great help, convenience, and savings! :)
