Jeffery Pettis who is quoted in the article (dept of Ag.) has spoken at our association meetings. One point he has mentioned that is not quoted here - possibly elaborated in the journal Science - is that there is also evidence that another significant factor contributing heavily to vulnerability is reduced immunity from the varroa mite which does not exist in Australia.

Here is one....

And check it out;

"IAPV also has not been found in "feral" bee colonies in the wild, said co-author Diana Cox-Foster of Penn State."

Wonder why the feral bees don't get it?  Could it be genetics?  Smaller cells?  Less Varroa mites?  Hardier stock?  Better immune systems?

We didn't have enough diseases, we had to import some more...

MB is it that they don't get it, or that none has been found?

No one's looked for CCD in feral colonies!

Claiming that "feral bees" don't get CCD is almost as disingenuous
as continuing the claims made that "organic" beekeepers have
not reported CCD.

An absence of evidence is NOT evidence of absence.

I find it funny that it is mentioned this way........ "IAPV also has not been found in "feral" bee colonies in the wild, said co-author Diana Cox-Foster of Penn State."

Why bother to say it at all if they haven't looked, or why not just say they haven't looked?

I've made no claims about any relationship at all concerning CCD, organic beekeeping and feral bees.  I'm merely asking questions in response to the quote:

"IAPV also has not been found in "feral" bee colonies in the wild, said co-author Diana Cox-Foster of Penn State."

Perhaps you should ask her why she said that.

That is correct. We all know there are wild elephants in Kansas even though there has been no evidence found to support these claims.

Actually there are a lot of fossilized elephant skeletons in Kansas...
