We just had a honey contest at our bee club. I've heard that there
are specific judging criteria, but I have no idea what they are...?
I didn't win, so I plan on blaming somebody!   No, it was
all in fun and wish I would've asked there, but I didn't want to ask
a bunch of questions after I didn't win!

Does anyone have any experience with honey judging and could
share the process?

Thanks Jim

Honey is typically judged on the following:

1. Density                         -20 points
2. Absence of crystals        -10 points
3. Cleanliness                    -30 points
4. Flavor                            -30 points
5. Appearance of container  -10 points

This is for extracted honey. Other criteria are used for comb, cut comb and finely granulated honey. At a county fair or other typical venue the source of the honey is not disclosed to the judges until all awards have been dispersed.
