this trap works,,,, cut a hole in the bottom board and attached a jar that is one-third filled with honey. Over the opening, bolt a square piece of Plexiglas elevated by a couple of washers. There has to be just enough room to allow adult beetles, but not bees, to crawl under the Plexiglas. Many of the beetles eventually wind up in the jar. This trapping idea is passive in nature and requires no chemical use. It could be modified in a number of ways by beekeepers and integrated into colony management on a permanent basis.

I've heard of this method of trap. And it seems to be successful.
Question?
I use screened borttom boards. Any ideas on how this could be used with them.

I  think it will work with a screen bottom board, you wouldnt need the plexi-glass then, i took my sbb out to try this , i drilled a 2 1/4 inch hole in the center of my bb, then got me a jar ring (you know like grandma use to put up preserves) , it has a 1/4 lip on top , then i got 2 small screws and screwed it under the bb making sure the hole in the bb was in the center , then just screwed the jar with a little honey in it into the jar ring .

Hi BigRog!

I got an idea if you're still interested.  Let me finish it and post it when I get a picture developed.  I gather SBB is not effective at all.  David
Everyone said it couldn't be done. But he with a chuckle replied, "I won't be one to say it is so, until I give it a try."  So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin.  If he had a worry he hid it and he started to sing as he tackled that thing that couldn't be done, and he did it.  (unknown)
